Rock N Soul managed her second straight win at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Sunday night, this time scoring in the featured Preferred Pace for mares. The race carried the night’s top purse of $25,000.
Leaving from post position No. 2 in a field of six as the 2-5 favourite, Rock N Soul (Rocknroll Hanover-Artchitecture), a six-year-old mare from the Ron Burke barn, was sent to the front at the quarter-pole only to cede the lead on the front stretch to Rhapsody Rose. She sat in the pocket until the stretch, when driver Matt Kakaley urged her up the passing lane to get the win by a neck over the fast-closing Billmar Scooter in a career-best 1:50.2. Rhapsody Rose faded to third.
Rock N Soul, owned by Frank Baldachino, Howard Taylor, Burke Racing, and Weaver Bruscemi, won for the third time in 10 races this season. Now two-for-two at Pocono since arriving from Yonkers, the mare has 20 lifetime victories and career earnings of $982,797.
