Last year's top Two-Year-Old Alberta Sired Filly Blue Star Beauty won her sophomore debut while Succulent pulled off a 29-1 upset in the $20,000 Wild Rose Stakes divisions Saturday afternoon at Alberta Downs

Blue Star Beauty, the 2-1 second choice, advanced from the backfield in the second stakes division to prevail in 1:55 flat for driver Bill Tainsh Jr. and trainer Douglas Stout. The popular pacesetter Credit Card Junkie (Keith Clark) finished half a length behind while Cool One (John Abbott) rounded out the top three finishers. Owned by Derek Stout, the As Promised-Whitesand Secret filly won six of her seven races as a freshman, finishing second in the Alberta Sires Stakes Super Final in her only defeat. Her career earnings climbed to $97,925 after today's victory.
Earlier on the card, Succulent made up an early 18-1/2 length deficit as she came flying on the scene late to pull off the upset in the first division for catch-driver Gerry Hudon and trainer-owner Keith Clark. She defeated G I Joan (Jim Marino) and stablemate Prairie Illusion (Keith Clark), who was named Alberta's 2011 Two-Year-Old Filly of the Year. The homebred As Promised-Western Appeal miss notched her second career win in 1:56.1 by three-quarters of a length. She now boasts $31,671 in lifetime earnings.
Sunday's harness racing card will feature two divisions of the Adios Pick for sophomore colts and geldings.
