Former claiming pacer Bolero Charles, who was recently scooped out of a $15,000 claiming event, made a partial payment on his price tag thanks to a 1:53.1 score in Rideau Carleton Raceway’s $13,000 Preferred Pace
on Thursday evening.
With Ted McDonald between the wheels, Bolero Charles shot to immediate command from Post 4 and supplied the field with fractions of :28.1, :57.1 and 1:25.1. A :28-second final frame was more than enough for the classy veteran to draw away to the 2-1/2 lengths decision over Viper Select. Third prize went to Livefreeordiehard.
Now racing under the guidance of trainer Gerard Demers, the nine-year-old son of Jennas Beach Boy-Bolero Takara won for the fourth time this season. The 31-time winner, who has banked in excess of $510,000, is owned by 9174 7998 Quebec Inc of Blainville, Quebec.
Driver John MacDonald could do little wrong on Thursday evening as noted in the fact that he won seven times during the 15-race program.
He took the checkered flag in the opener with Windsun Tornado (2:01.1) and later notched a natural hat trick in Races 3 thru 5 with Win Gaiter (1:55.3), Packin (1:58.4) and Countyline Cam (1:54). Off-the-pace scores with Magical Marks (1:58.4) in Race 11, Pumped And Glidin (1:59) in Race 12 and Passion Starlet (1:57.1) in Race 14 completed the seven-win performance.
The productive night at the office helped MacDonald bump his yearly win total to 94 and his lifetime total to 2091.
