How quickly they forget. After dominating the top class at Exhibition Park Raceway earlier this season, Blood Money was dismissed as the second choice for the second straight week after being assigned a post outside his main rival. He rewarded his faithful backers on Saturday with one of his most impressive performances of the season.
A field of four went postward in the Winners Over feature, with Woodmere Ideal Art sent off as the slight public choice from post three. Driver Robert Laffin hustled last week's winner in this class to the front and dared his rivals his best him. A serious :28.1 opener. Blood Money was wrestled back into fourth and last after Dr. Mitch Downey was unable to find a spot along the rail, but he was off the pylons and advancing first-over through a :58 half.
Blood Money still had more than five lengths to make up as Woodmere Ideal Art passed the third station in 1:27, with Laffin encouraging his pacesetter for another gear. Around the far turn, Blood Money continued to advance and narrowed that lead to just two lengths. With Woodmere Ideal Art full out, Blood Money had the momentum and paced by the favourite to win by three parts of a length in a time of 1:57.1. Thankyouallmyfans (John Davidson) was another four lengths back for third.
Trained by Ellen Stevenson for Dr. Downey, Blood Money (Sweet Lou - Blood Diamond) sports a record of 4-1-1 in six seasonal starts. Saturday's win was the 13th lifetime for the five-year-old stallion, bringing his earnings to $434,445.
