Closing from third over, Howmacfiesty launched a wide bid through the stretch to catch pacesetter Kiwi Focus N and win the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace at Georgian Downs by three-quarters lengths in 1:55.1.
Sent the odds-on favourite, Kiwi Focus N left for the lead from the rail, pacing to the quarter in :27.4. Unchallenged through a :57.2 half, Kiwi Focus N maintained a length-and-a-half lead while Fading Shadow raced first over moving into the second turn. Kiwi Focus N continued on the front by three-quarters in 1:25.4 and clung to command while Howmacfiesty initiated a rally from off cover, making up three lengths in the stretch to catch Kiwi Focus N at the line. Twenty Three Red, off a rail trip, finished third.
Winning her sixth race in 17 starts and 22nd in 94 overall, Howmacfiesty, a five-year-old mare by Carnivore out of the Largo mare Bradelle, competes for owner-trainer Jack Harris. J Harris piloted the $7.20 winner.
