Chris Giaccio and Victor Kirby’s Can Do broke the track record for four-year-old trotting geldings Wednesday with a 1:55 triumph at Harrington Raceway.
Driven by co-owner/trainer Kirby, the Cantab Hall gelding sat most of the mile behind favourite - and pacesetter - Muscleaneous, who recently broke a track record of his own for older trotting stallions on June 5. Muscleaneous led throughout before Can Do awaited his turn in the stretch and breezed by in mid stretch for a one-length win. The former mark was set last season by Cashahallic (1:55.2). Can Do, who paid $9.60, registered his third win in 2013.
In the featured $19,000 Open Trot, David Miller’s Cash On Delivery ($5.80, Vince Copeland) notched his fifth win of the year. Trained by his driver, the five-year-old Cash Hall gelding outkicked He’s Spooky, who finished second and third place finisher Traverse Seelster late for a 1:56 win.
Allan Davis had a driving triple on the program.
