Secret Weapon Upsets Hiawatha Preferred

Secret Weapon rallied from off the pace for a 12-1 upset in the featured $13,500 Preferred Pace at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday night

Longshot Red Star Volcano (Barry Treen) cut out fractions of :26.1, :55 and 1:23 with millionaire pacer Tigerama, the 3-2 favourite, following from the pocket and Prince Val (Brad Forward) applying pressure from first over. As the field turned for home, Secret Weapon, who was sixth on the outside, unleashed a :29.1 final frame to get up for the half-length score in 1:53.1. Prince Val was the runner-up with R Lil King (Kevin Wallis) coming on for third over Tigerama.

Secret Weapon kicked back $26.60 for the win. The eight-year-old gelded son of Western Hanover-Falcons Secret notched his third victory in seven tries this year and lifted his earnings to $26,055 for trainer Wayne Preszcator and the Secret Weapon Stables of Waterloo, ON. Secret Weapon, a winner of $383,965 lifetime, clicked for his 32nd win.
