The ‘King’ of Island racing has shown he has a pair of queens in the Fillies and Mares Open class as the Winsloe driver again won the Thursday night feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
After winning the class both Thursday’s so far this season with Dreamfair Zenfire then Arc Light, the Marc Campbell lasses packed a one-two finish in this week’s $2,900 Fillies and Mares Open pace at the capital oval.
Campbell elected to drive Dreamfair Zenfire from his stable this Thursday and hustled the Sunfire Blue Chip four-year-old right to the engine and never relinquished control through splits of 28.2, 58.2, 1:27.3 and 1:56.1. Berazzled (Driven by Mike McGuigan) launched a first-over attack but had to settle for third while Arc Light (Adam Merner) followed that cover and got up for second in a tight finish.
Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris hold the ownership papers of Dreamfair Zenfire.
Campbell came back one race later to capture the evening finale back-up class with the Bo Ford trained Falls Creek for owner Arnold Myers of Charlottetown. Making her East Coast debut, Falls Creek led at every station to win by two-lengths in 1:57 over Killean Finale (Ken Murphy) and The Time To Win (Brodie MacPhee).
Live racing continues at Red Shores Charlottetown on Friday and Saturday evening with a 6 p.m. post time for both cards.
