It has been reported that after finding common ground with other state legislators this past Saturday night, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is one step closer to temporarily taking over control of the New York Racing Association.

The New York Daily News has reported that legislation was introduced Saturday, June 16 would see a temporary, 17-member board created to oversee NYRA for a three-year term.

The legislation is reported to be voted on before the legislative session is completed this Thursday (June 21).

The wording of the bill also acknowledges that the horse-racing industry is a significant and key aspect of the state's economy.

"The Legislature finds and declares a strong horse racing and breeding industry to be a valuable contributor to the New York state economy and a tourism generator for the entire state," the bill states.
