Warrawee Yuri chased the gate away in an $8,600 Prospect Series leg for three-year-old trotting colts and threw shade at his main rival during a front-striding score on Saturday night at Hiawatha Horse Park.
Warrawee Yuri led at every call, fending off Sunglassesatnight, in a two-minute mile for trainer/driver Mario Baillargeon.
The favoured My One Percent (Preston Shaw) broke stride at the inside behind the gate before Warrawee Yuri fired from post four and pocketed outside leaver Sunglassesatnight (Scott Coulter) during a :29.3 quarter. After a half in 1:01, Sunglassesatnight swept up to challenge alongside by three-quarters in 1:30.2, but Warrawee Yuri held him at bay through the stretch, winning by three-quarters of a length. Pillow Thief (J.B. Renaud) rounded out the top three finish order.
Warrawee Juri paid $12.80 for the mild upset. The Kadabra-Karoon colt earned his second win in seven starts during his debut season for Thestable Warrawee Yuri.
