A down-the-road Krispy Apple (Jason Bartlett, $6.10) now has 44 career victories, few as handily as Friday night after winning Yonkers Raceway’s $45,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace.
Easily negating her mandated outside post position No. 7, the slight favourite looped Mach It A Par (Brian Sears) en route to the lead. She worked around Pasultimatedelite N (George Brennan) before a :28.4 opening quarter-mile.
After a rated 58-second intermission, Mach It A Par made her second move, extricating from fourth. That one barely engaged the leader in and out of a 1:25.3 three-quarters.
Entering the lane, Krispy Apple opened two and a hald lengths, then ran up the margin. She defeated a second-over Hidden Land (Brent Holland) by fourth lengths in 1:52.2. Mach It A Par salvaged the bottom of the ticket, with Pasultimatedelite N and Al Raza N (Mark MacDonald) rounding out the payees.
For Krispy Apple, an eight-year-old daughter of Western Ideal co-owned by Bamond Racing and Joseph Davino and trained by Jeff Bamond Jr., the win was her fourth in 10 seasonal starts (career earnings now nearing $1.7 million). The exacta paid $56.50, with the triple returning $280.
The win in the feature was just one of Bartlett’s six-pack during the 11-race program.
