Whata Donato challenged Cowgirl Hall before the three-quarters, then eased by her in the lane to capture Tuesday’s $20,000 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.
Whata Donato was third when trainer/driver Doug Snyder sent her after Cowgirl Hall. The pair dueled through the final turn until Whata Donato moved clear, downing her rival by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:54.1 over a sloppy surface. Anaffairtoremember rallied for show.
Frank Poerio, Jr. campaigns Whata Donato, a five-year-old daughter of Donato Hanover-Donven Promise who now boasts $266,776 in career earnings.
Tony Hall, Aaron Merriman, Dan Rawlings and trainer Bruce Riegle each enjoyed a double on the 14-race card.
Wednesday's card of racing at The Meadows will offer two total-pool guarantees — a $5,000 guarantee for the Pick 4 and a $5,000 guarantee for the Pick 5. Both are offered as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative.
While the $5,000 Pick 4 guarantee is a regular feature of each live program, The Meadows added the “instant” Pick 5 guarantee after Tuesday’s Pick 5 was uncovered, resulting in a $1,241.48 carryover.
Minimum wager for the Pick 4 (races 4-7) and Pick 5 (races 10-14) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets.
First post for Wednesday’s program is 12:55 p.m.
