Kostas Tsanakos’ Superbad Hanover ($3.20, Ross Wolfenden) equaled the track record for three-year-old pacing colts Wednesday at Harrington Raceway with a blistering 1:52.2 triumph
in his $20,000 divisional elimination of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) stakes.
Superbad Hanover, a son of Badlands Hanover, assumed command almost immediately and never looked back in his two length win over Amazing Quest and Brisk Clipper. It was his fifth win in 10 career starts for the Tsanokos-trained colt, who tied the mark set by Metropolitan in the Messenger Stakes in 2004.
Ben Stafford and Trevor Donaldson’s Scout Hanover ($3.20, Stafford, 1:54.4) and Louie Paglierani’s Lous Bad Yankee ($3.20, Jim Morand, 1:55.1) won the remaining two DSBF divisions. The second leg for colt pacers will be held June 23, while the series of $100,000 finals for all divisions will be raced July 29, during a special Governor’s Day of racing during the Delaware State Fair.
In the first race on Wednesday’s program, driver Brad Hanners was thrown from his mount Riverboat Queen, who made a break shortly after the start and went down. Hanners was taken to nearby Milford Memorial Hospital for observation. His injuries were not believed to be serious at the time of this release. No other horses were involved and Riverboat Queen was able to get up under her own power and appeared uninjured.
Driver Victor Kirby won four races on the program. Ross Wolfenden had three driving wins.
