Chinnys Wings Goes Back-To-Back

After winning last week’s $10,500 Preferred 2 Trot at Grand River Raceway, Chinnys Wings returned to the Elora half-mile track on Wednesday night and held off Casperdfrendlyhors to win the featured event once again

.

With a pair of scratches and early breaks made by Zorgwijk Heavenly (Larry Small) and Stormont Lancelot (Jonathan Drury) the field for this week’s Preferred was quickly thinned out as the gate swung open.

The Original (Dave Boughton) was first away from Post 5 and parked Gonnabe An Ottlaw (Doug McNair) to the :27.1 opening quarter while 3-2 favourite Chinnys Wings and Doug Bowins watched the action from third, six lengths behind. The top pair battled into the stretch before Gonnabe An Ottlaw surrendered and tucked into the pocket.

As soon as the outside lane was cleared, Bowins made the winning move rolling Chinnys Wings first up past the :57.3 and taking control. Casperdfrendlyhors (Scott Zeron) followed his cover and applied pressure past three-quarters in 1:27. That challenger gave a final push in deep stretch, but just missed as Chinnys Wings stuck his neck out to win in 1:58.2. Its On My Tab (Mark MacDonald) finished five lengths behind in third and was refunded as he did not receive a fair start due to interference caused by Zorgwijk Heavenly. Stormont Lancelot recovered from his early miscue for fourth.

Bowins trains and co-owns Chinnys Wings with Donald Brinkman of East Coulee, AB. The five-year-old son of Armbro Ricochet-I Quiver Not has won two of three races this year with $12,800 earned and 20 times over the course of his career for a bankroll totaling $133,587.
