Published: June 15, 2010 02:05 pm EDT

On today's episode of Trot Radio, Don Amos, President of the Ontario Harness Horse Association discusses the recent Ontario Racing Commission rule changes with respect to claiming horses

and frivolous appeals as well as the consultation committee on the moratorium on race dates.

On appeals: "We [as horsepeople] have to be responsible once we put in an appeal that we have to go forward with it."

On race dates: "In a generic sense, all owners and trainers, want race opportunities. However, in a competitive world, in a competitive entertainment world, it must be based on solid economic principles as well."

On the new claiming rule: "We had that [problem] in California, mind you it was on the thoroughbred side, people were claiming big time and taking them out of the state. It really, really, really penalized the horse population and of course that adversely affects the field size, and field size affects what the customer likes - which is full fields."
