Favourites Imminent Response ($5.00) and Bestofbest Hanover ($3.30) delivered on their pari-mutuel promises in this week's $6,500 Winners Over co-features contested on Sunday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Imminent Response was a wire-to-wire winner in the trotting division with Clarke Steacy in tow for trainer Nathalie Seguin and owner Jean Francois Seguin. The nine-year-old Oaklea Julian gelding carved out fractions of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:26.3 en route to the 1:56 triumph. Rocky Boy settled for a pocket trip through the first quarter, but Michelangelo and Will To Do overtook him in deep stretch for the remaining podium positions.
Melanie Plourde's pacer Bestofbest Hanover earned his third consecutive win after rallying off the cover of eventual third-place finisher Beach Runner A M and edging out pacesetter Electric Albert (:26.4, :57 and 1:25.2), who was pressed early by D Gs Woodstock before that foe broke stride. Bestofbest Hanover, a seven-year-old son of Western Hanover, sprinted his final quarter in :27.4 to prevail by a quarter-length in 1:53.4.
