Assigned post position No. 5 for the second consecutive week, the 11-year-old Panorama gelding rolled through panels :27.3, :58 and 1:28.1 before having to deal with the pocket-sitter. This week, it was Thomson Seelster (Gerry Belanger) who emerged from the two-hole as the field entered the stretch, but Lombo Skyrider A managed to hang in there by a quarter-length to win in 1:57.1.
Lombo Skyrider A notched his fifth win of the season pushing his earnings to over $41,000 for owner John Bianco of Bolton, Ont. The 42-time winner has earned $621,974 in his career.
Sudbury also hosted the first leg of the Thunder Series for $7,500 claimers on Saturday evening.
In the first of two $6,800 divisions, Shawland Y Two K, with Gerry Belanger in the bike, was on top before the half and she rolled through the remaining panels with ease en route to a two-length victory in 2:02.3. The nine-year-old Super Pleasure mare scored her third straight win and fifth of the season for trainer Suzanne Lavoie and owner Janice Muller of Azilda, Ont.
Justi P V worked out a similar trip to win the second split by three lengths in 2:00.1 for trainer/driver Justin Turcotte. The eight-year-old daughter of Authentique P V notched her second win of the year for owner Chantell Robertson of Chelmsford, Ont.
