Kadabra Fillies Sweep Golds

Three-year-old trotting fillies were in the spotlight Monday evening at Mohawk Racetrack as the Campbellville, Ont. oval hosted a set of $105,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series divisions.

Heavily-favoured Caprice Hill romped to 1:53.3 triumph in the first split for driver Randy Waples and trainer Tony Alagna.

The daughter of Kadabra-Bramasole marched out from Post 7 and raced parked to the quarter pole in :28 before crossing over in front of the field. She then whipped through fractions of :56.2 and 1:25.2 before powering home in :28.1 to win by 5-1/2 lengths over Major Muscle. Celebrity Eventsy was third.

Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Caprice Hill improved this year’s record to 2-1-0 from three starts with the win. The nine-time winner has banked more than $700,000 to date for owner Tom Hill of Hamilton, Ont.

Emoticon Hanover took the second division in 1:57 for the duo of driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Luc Blais.

After an ugly start, Tymal Tempest took the field to the quarter pole in :28.2 while Emoticon Hanover sat fourth at the rail. Filion rushed his charge to the lead in the backstretch, and after clearing Emoticon Hanover strolled through soft splits of :57.4 and 1:28. A :29-second closing quarter was more than enough to earn her the win by 3-3/4 lengths over Tymal Tempest. Third prize went to Dottie.

The daughter of Kadabra-Emmylou Who won for the second time this season in three tries for Determination of Montreal, QC. The six-time winner owns a cash stash of $280,758.
