Nursing Home Association of Prince Edward Island (NHAPEI) has entered a creative affiliation with Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park to mark National Long Term Care Day 2025.

This partnership will enable residents in P.E.I. long-term care homes, who are lifelong enthusiasts of harness racing, to have enjoyable visits to the racetrack during live race presentations. Red Shores will make it easier for residents to enjoy harness racing, by offering seating based on the physical abilities and preferences of the residents. Further, Red Shores staff will welcome residents through providing refreshments, public acknowledgement of their attendance and personalized visits from Red Shores staff.

Darlene Oakes, Executive Director of NHAPEI, says the residents are looking forward to the experience.

“Some of our residents are lifelong fans of harness racing, and experience a loss of this activity, so we are grateful to Red Shores for their help and enthusiasm in creating these adventures for them,” said Oakes

The NHAPEI values person-centred care and strives to ensure that residents experience joy filled activities that are meaningful to them.
