After a sophomore season with nine top-three finishes from 10 starts, pacing mare Randomirogeo looks to be maintaining that form — if not improving — as a four-year-old.
In the featured $5,200 conditioned pace on the 2021 season opener at Hanover Raceway, Randomirogeo had the public support at odds of 3-5 and she delivered on that pari-mutuel promise with her third straight victory. Driver J.R. Plante placed the pacer on the point and she powered through panels of :28.3, :58.2 and 1:27.2 before punctuating her 1:55.3 performance with a :28.1 sprint home to score by nearly four lengths. Harpers Hat Trick (Travis Henry) sat the pocket throughout and nabbed runner-up honours with Chuck Heaton Love (Paul MacKenzie) almost a dozen lengths in arrears.
Randomirogeo (Ok Boromir - Mirmattculous) is trained by John Kennedy for owner-breeder Valerie Phillips of Lions Head, Ont. In 16 starts, Randomirogeo sports a 8-14 summary with earnings of $36,121. Her 2021 earnings from six starts ($17,132) are nearing the sophomore total ($18,989) accrued from 10 starts.
Handle for the 10-race card was $43,248. Live harness racing continues next Saturday (June 19), with Hanover racing on predominantly a Saturday afternoon schedule through to the middle of September.
