It has been reported that the Woodbine Entertainment Group has been forced to quarantine Barn 1 at Woodbine Racetrack.
A report by veteran racing writer Jennifer Morrison explains that quarantine has come due to the fact that a thoroughbred racehorse had to be euthanized after displaying symptoms of neurological problems and fever.
The article by Morrison, a Sovereign Award-winning racing writer, states that the symptoms that the two-year-old filly displayed 'could suggest any number of diseases, including the equine herpes virus (EHV-1).'
Morrison's piece states that another thoroughbred that displayed similar symptoms has been sent to Guelph's Ontario Veterinary College for testing.
Ontario Racing Commission Manager of Veterinary Services Dr. Adam Chambers has been quoted as saying, “I am not ready to say it’s EHV-1, but I have suggested (Woodbine) and horsemen take the necessary precautions.”
