The trip was sweet and the end result was even sweeter for trotting veteran Zeus Lightning, who eked out a head decision against conditioned foes Monday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

With Sylvain Filion at the controls, Zeus Lightning got away second and tracked Talbotcreek Suzie through fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:27.2. Filion angled the classy campaigner off the rail in the lane and the gelding fired home in :28.3 to win in 1:56.1 over another classy veteran, Slip Into Glide. Money Mission took home third prize.

Steve Charlton trains the 11-year-old son of Pegasus Spur-Graceful Action for Larocque Racing Stb Inc of Thornhill, Ont. It was the trotter’s third win of the season and the 29th of his career. The lion’s share of the purse bumped his bankroll over $730,000.
