On the heels of a nine-length romp in the slop one week ago, Revenant showed a fast track was just as much to his liking by stepping up the top class on Saturday (June 10) at Northside Downs and handily disposing of his competition.
Driver Shawn Lynk wasted no time and took no chances with Revenant in the $1,600 Winners Over Pace, sending the 5-2 second choice to the top from post two. Revenant cleared rail starter A Better Man (Gerard Kennedy) around the opening turn and then dared his rivals to take him on. Powering through panels of :28.1, :58 and 1:27.3, Revenant was more than three lengths the best and the win margin just increased from there. A final quarter in :30.1 sealed the deal with Revenant crossing the wire in 1:57.4.
A Better Man held off favoured Southwind Ricardo (Brett Leblanc) for the runner-up spot.
A nine-year-old son of If I Can Dream - Dragonfest, Revenant is owned by Kyla MacDonald of Stanhope, P.E.I., along with Tyler Lynk of Port Morien and Colby Lynk of Reserve Mines, N.S. The 20-time winner of $51,239 is trained by John Hawco. He paid $7.50 to win.
