Tamarind Takes Meadows Preferred

Looped from the gate, Tamarind persevered, made the lead at the quarter and collected an in-hand victory in a career-best 1:53.2 in Tuesday’s $20,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Tamarind tried for the front from Post 6 but was denied the lead by Count Me In, who burst quickly from Post 8. Under Aaron Merriman’s urging, the six-year-old son of Angus Hall-Spicegirl Kosmos kept to his business and defeated Count Me In by 1-3/4 lengths. Classicality rallied for show.

Bill Bercury owns and trains Tamarind, who was won 15 times over the last two seasons and boasts a lifetime bankroll of $557,089.

Dave Palone drove three winners on the 15-race card.
