Favourite Whats The Hurry gave her backers some anxious moments on Friday night at Scioto Downs, but driver Jeremy Smith got her up in the final strides to win the Fillies & Mares Open Pace
in 1:53.3. She scored by a head over Shell I Attack with TTs Little Lass getting third.
Driver J.D. Wengerd sent Shell I Attack to the lead at the start and TTs Little Lass was following her cover. Whats The Hurry sat fifth in the six-horse field for the first half-mile and was still fourth as the tightly-bunched field entered the stretch. Smith swung her to the outside and she responded with a convincing kick to win.
Brian Tatham owns the seven-year-old mare and she’s trained by John Tatham. It was her second win in nine starts this season and she took a new lifetime mark.
Scioto Downs resumes racing on Saturday with a special post time of 5:30 p.m. to accommodate the simulcast of the Belmont Stakes. The track’s Dollar Menu on draft beer, hot dogs, soft drinks, and popcorn will be offered 3 to 8 p.m.
