The field for the $228,000 Bettors Delight Open Pace, which will head to post Sunday, June 13 at Tioga Downs, was drawn today
. The field will presumably be looking to upend the razor-sharp Shark Gesture, but one horse which will not get the opportunity this time around is Down Under phenom Auckland Reactor.
Auckland Reactor will be racing on Sunday, though not at Tioga. Instead of sending Auckland Reactor to the Bettors Delight, trainer Kelvin Harrison has elected to enter the six-year-old son of Mach Three to contest a winners-over conditioned event at Chester Racetrack, which has been carded as Race 10 and will go for a purse of $28,000.
Shark Gesture will start from Post 6 in the 10-horse Bettors Delight, which has been carded as Race 10 on Tioga's 13-dash program which kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Trainer Larry Remmen has listed 'The Minister of Speed' George Brennan to be at Shark Gesture's lines once again.
Off his last few lines, it can be assumed that Shark Gesture is coming into the Bettors Delight in sharp form. After winning the final of the Graduate Series at the Meadowlands Racetrack in 1:48.4 on May 15, the son of Cams Card Shark turned a regular qualifier into a speed show, as he went out and paced to a World Record (qualifying time) of 1:48.2.
Days after the jaw-dropping qualifier, Remmen said that his stable star was looking for more.
Among the horses that will be taking their best shot at Shark Gesture at Tioga on Sunday are $312,000 Molson Pace winner Won The West (PP3, D. Miller), $460,000 George Levy Series winner Foiled Again (PP4, Y. Gingras) and millionaire Mr Wiggles (PP1, T. Tetrick).
Conditions for the Bettors Delight stipulate that the Top 10 earners from 2009-2010 combined make the field if more than ten horses are entered. Had Auckland Reactor been entered into the Tioga free-for-all event, his earnings of over $500,000 over the past two seasons would have assured him a spot in Sunday's 10-horse final.
