Another track has ended racing, but this one happily just for the 2010 season
.
Ocean Downs in Berlin, MD, has announced it will not be able to conduct its 40-nights of harness racing because of the demolition of its grandstand and construction involving a new racino.
Chief Operating Officer Bill Fasy said conditions were unsafe for viewing, but that Ocean planned to be back with a new viewing area next summer.
“We just don’t have all the bells and whistles for watching races this year. The track is not safe for that.”
On the last four Saturdays in August, Ocean Downs will host the Maryland Standardbred Stakes, with spectators limited to the clubhouse for daytime racing with no betting.
Ocean’s horsemen, without a track on which to race, have been hoping for an arrangement with Rosecroft Raceway, but no plans have been completed.
