The razor-sharp Yourtheone rode his winning form to a milestone victory on Sunday, May 31 at Flamboro Downs as the gelding won his seventh straight race to reach 50 victories in his career.
Jason Ryan took the lines from regular driver Travis Cullen but made no changes to his usual tactics, sending the 1-9 choice to the front from post four. Yourtheone, rising to the $9,200 optional-claiming level, enjoyed unfettered command of the field through :27.4, :56.4 and 1:25 fractions until Full Credit (Austin Sorrie) left the pocket to take his shot turning for home. Yourtheone was challenged down the stretch for the first time since April and responded gamely to win by a length in 1:53.3. Full Credit finished second, with Beachin Lindy (Mark MacDonell) third.
Yourtheone’s winning streak started when switching back to trainer Jodie Cullen, who claimed back the gelding, whom she bred, on April 5. He won four races in a row in $8,000 claimers, then stepped up to the $10,000 level and won two straight before climbing another rung of the class ladder in Sunday’s win. Of Yourtheone's seven consecutive wins, five have come with margins greater than four lengths. The eight-year-old son of Shanghai Phil-Millbanks Ariel has made all 186 career starts in Ontario, earning $330,749. He is owned by A1stable of Dundas, Ont. The win price was $2.30.
