Shadrack Hanover turned in a track record performance on Friday night, May 31 at Kawartha Downs while putting the finishing touches on a multiple-win night for driver Samuel Fillion and trainer Tommy Riley.
Shadrack Hanover won the evening's featured $5,000 ninth race, a conditioned-optional claiming trot, in 1:54.4 to knock one-fifth of a second off Brazen's track record for older trotting horses that was set in January 2007. The time was just four-fifths of a second off the overall male trot record held by gelding Mr Tasty.
Shadrack Hanover was all alone on the lead as he set fractions of :27, :55.4 and 1:24.3 en route to the eight-length victory. Arrakis and Ricky Resolve rounded out the top three finish order.
The trotter is now perfect in two starts at the Kawartha meet for owner Triple S Equine of Newton, Ont.
A seven-year-old son of Muscle Hill out of the stakes-winning mare Shared Past, Shadrack Hanover has recorded 23 career victories from 81 starts with earnings amounting to $256,611.
The victory was the fourth on the 10-race card for Riley and marked Fillion's sixth win on the night. The track's defending training and driving champions combined for wins with Blue Kantana ($4.40), Cortez The Killer ($6.50) and Majestic Virgin ($3.10) in addition to Shadrack Hanover ($2.10). Fillion also scored wins in rein to Olaf Du Lac ($3.40) for the Eric Nadeau stable and Goaltender ($5.20) for conditioner Gerard Demers.
