The competition will be fierce but Dreamfair Zenfire has a point to prove as she aims to make it to the winner’s circle following the Thursday evening feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has 11 dashes scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. opening post time with the featured Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace taking to the track in race 10 for a $3,200 purse.
Dreamfair Zenfire has post two in the compact field of five, fresh off her only true break in stride in her 96-race career last week. Dreamfair Zenfire was on top of the field heading for home when she went on the run in the stretch drive last Thursday and was forced to settle for third in line to trainer Marc Campbell for owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris, P.E.I. The daughter of Sunfire Blue Chip only shows one other break on her lifetime chart lines, which is when she broke a hopple in the 2021 Atlantic Breeder’s Crown Mares Invitational. She will be looking to return to the winner’s circle for the 37th time on Thursday and the Charlottetown track record holding mare will face off with another former track record holder in post five starter Ladylike (to be driven by Gilles Barrieau). The Colin Johnson-trained Ladylike was second in her last start to this week’s post three starter and morning line favourite Tobins Brownie, who knocked off this field in 1:55.2 on May 26 for the second win of her four-year-old campaign. David Dowling trains and drives the Stonebridge Terror mare, who was an impressive eight-for-16 in her three-year-old campaign in 2021.
Peter MacPhee likes Dreamfair Zenfire on top of the Post Time Picks.
“Dreamfair Zenfire looked to be home and cooled last week but made a break in the stretch and finished third,” said MacPhee. “She also moves further inside and will be pressing the pace so look for her to seal the deal this time.”
Also in the field are Ms Moyse (Corey MacPherson) and Better Be In Love (Ken Murphy).
The $2,800 Open Trot lines up in race eight with Go With Her the top choice from post five for driver Brodie MacPhee, trainer Kuri White and owner East Coast Captains of Cornwall, P.E.I. Other top entries include Freddie (Campbell) and last week’s Open Trot winner Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault).
