The trip was a tough one for Red Cash in Thursday’s feature at Saratoga Casino Hotel, but it didn’t stop the mare from setting a new lifetime mark.
John Podres owns and trains the six-year-old who came up second best while a beaten favourite during Monday’s Memorial Day matinee. On Thursday, Red Cash moved first over on the favoured Crazycat (Mark Beckwith) in the $9,000 feature for New York sired trotters. Red Cash cleared the lead and powered away to win in a career best 1:57.3 at odds of 5-2. Reigning Autumn (Alek Chartrand) came from the back of the pack to finish second while Crazycat had to settle for third.
The win was one of three consecutive on the card for driver Jimmy Devaux who piloted a pair of winners for Harry Reddick, Jr. on the day, guiding pacers Freedom Reigns and Dandy Do Right to Monday scores.
Friday night racing will feature the New York Sire Stakes for the first time this season as three year old pacing fillies take center stage at the Spa. First post time is set for 6:45 p.m.
