A pair of standout Bob McIntosh trainees battled rain, wind and a sloppy track to chart their first lines of the year at Mohawk Racetrack’s Friday morning qualifying
session.
Shelliscape, a three-year-old daughter of Artiscape-Shell I Scoot, won her qualifier by six and three-quarter lengths in 1:57.3 with regular reinsman Randy Waples in the sulky.
The pacing miss crafted a 5-3-3 record in 14 starts as a freshman with $261,544 in earnings for owners Robert McIntosh Stables Inc, C S X Stables and DM Stables LLC.
Shelliscape is eligible to this year’s Fan Hanover Stakes at Mohawk. Eliminations are slated for Saturday, June 9 with the rich final scheduled for Saturday, June 16, Pepsi North America Cup night.
The Hall of Fame trainer and Waples also qualified Strike An Attitude, a homebred daughter of Western Hanover-Strike A Balance.
The four-year-old pacing mare was third in her qualifier, behind winner Rebeka Bayama (1:58.3) and runner-up Lady Latte, clocking her own mile in 1:58.4.
Strike An Attitude, who equalled the world record for three-year-old pacing fillies on a one-mile track with a 1:48.4 clocking at The Red Mile last year, has a lifetime record of 9-8-3 in 31 starts. She has banked $906,738 in her career for owners Robert McIntosh Stables Inc., C S X Stables and Jerry Silva.
Strike An Attitude is eligible to this year’s Roses Are Red Stakes at Mohawk. Eliminations are slated for Saturday, July 14 with the rich final scheduled for Saturday, July 21, Maple Leaf Trot night.
