Treasure Blue Chip, age 34, the grand dame of Blue Chip Farm, will visit Youth Day at Goshen Historic Track in Goshen, New York, on Saturday
. She is the human equivalent of about 100 years old and in exceptional health. She will visit Goshen with her two constant companions, miniature donkeys named Bailey and Brodie.
Treasure Blue Chip and friends will be in a portable stall behind the grandstand from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras and give the matron a pat. Non-betting races that day start at 1 p.m.
Born in 1975, Treasure Blue Chip was a top racehorse on the Yonkers and Roosevelt Raceway circuit, winning nearly $200,000 in the late 1970s, before starting a motherhood career at her place of birth - Blue Chip Farm in Wallkill, New York.
Treasure lives the life of equine royalty at Blue Chip. She resides in a private paddock adjacent to the home of farm President Mike Kimelman and is cared for by his 13-year-old daughter Olivia.
Owned by Sheila Baird of New York City, Treasure Blue Chip has had a remarkable 14 foals, who have collectively won $2.6 million. Among her sons is Pershing Square, a winner of more than $800,000, who was a stablemate of the champion Nihilator. An even half-dozen of her progeny have won more than $200,000; in addition to Pershing Square, they are Tibet ($653,680), Baker Field ($305,035), Battery Park ($207,339), Union Square ($203,591) and Pipers Song ($186,632).
Goshen Historic Track is located at 44 Park Place in Goshen, adjacent to the Harness Racing Museum, at 240 Main Street. Goshen is reached via exit 124 off Route 17, exit 10 off the New York State Thruway.
