Bloodstockshalltab was treated to a ground-saving trip in Thursday’s $32,700 final of the Tie Silk Series at Woodbine Racetrack, and the gelding didn’t let it go to waste.
He found a seam in deep stretch for driver Jody Jamieson and turned on the jets en route to posting a career-best clocking of 1:56.3 in the winning effort.
Bloodstockshalltab, who was a beaten favourite in the second leg of the series after a popular victory in the opening leg, was hustled off the gate from Post 7 and took the field past the quarter-pole in :28. You Rock My World was parked going into the first turn, but he cleared without a tussle and proceeded to lead the field through middle panels of :57.4 and 1:26.3 while feeling pressure from race favourite Muscle On Broadway.
You Rock My World entered the lane with the lead, and the first-over attacking Muscle On Broadway was starting to get poor gaited. Room opened up between those two in deep stretch, and when Bloodstockshalltab found the breach he shot through and grabbed the lead. His :29.4 closing panel was good enough to earn him the win by three-quarters of a length over a dead game You Rock My World. Third went to Just Make Believe.
“The trip worked out great,” trainer Ben Wallace said following the win. “We bought this colt to aim him for this and for the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes. It’s great when things work out like they're supposed to.”
Brad Grant of Milton, ON owns the three-year-old son of Cantab Hall-Starlet Lane, who was purchased for $60,000 from the January Select Mixed Sale at The Meadowlands. The gelding now owns a 4-2-2 record from nine trips postward this season, and the lion’s share of Thursday’s purse bumped his career cash stash to $60,670.
