His full sister Phaetosive was an impressive winner in a qualifier this past Saturday, and now the Explosive Matter–Phaeton gelding Explosivebreakaway has shown he may be ready for an outstanding year in 2019.
Explosivebreakaway recorded his first qualifying win of the season at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Wednesday morning (May 8), as he was first under the wire in 1:56.1.
The three-year-old finished with a pair of :28.2 quarters in the back half to close from sixth and notch the victory. Explosivebreakaway posted a 5-3-2-0 record last season, and won his last start of his freshman campaign, a division of the Liberty Bell, in 1:59.
Trainer Erv Miller teamed with driver Atlee Bender to showcase an impressive pair of debuting three-year-olds – Code On The Beach (a Somebeachsomewhere gelding) and Cub Fan (a So Surreal gelding), both of whom crossed the wire first in 1:53.3.
