After a pair of victorious qualifiers to start her year, including one in 1:52.4, Thats The Ticket’s 2017 campaign is “pretty much over,” according to one of her co-owners.
Chicago resident Craig Henderson, who owns Thats The Ticket along with Robert Mondillo (of Delaware, OH) and Lawrence Minowitz (Greenwich, CT) has revealed that the three-year-old Roll With Joe filly had to have emergency surgery last night.
In a social media post, Henderson stated that the 2016 Three Diamonds winner suffered a blockage in her intestine. Further analysis revealed that the bay was also ailed by a small adhesion on her colon.
“At midnight I wasn’t sure she'd make it – surgery for three hours and now all is good,” he wrote, adding that Thats The Ticket’s 2017 racing season is “pretty much over.”
Henderson related that he feels sorry for his co-owners – Mondillo and Minowitz – the filly’s groom, Alex Goldin, and Thats The Ticket’s trainer, Chris Ryder.
Henderson went on to state that the recovery period from the surgery “is about 90 days” and that Ryder “fully expects her to be fine once she heals and trains back.”
Alluding to the fact that the filly’s 2017 might be over, Henderson wrote, “maybe a great older pacing mare?”
Purchased for $60,000 at the 2015 Lexington Selected sale, Thats The Ticket made 14 starts at age two and compiled a slate of 2-4-1 with $331,824 in purses.
