No Stopping Odds On Amethyst!

Despite six consecutive wins, Odds On Amethyst wasn’t sent off as the public’s top choice in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred Trot at Mohawk Racetrack.

Oops….that was a big mistake.

The streaking gelding made his non-believers pay thanks to a gritty score in 1:53.2 for trainer/driver Pat Hudon.

Odds On Amethyst got away fifth from the gate while Finish Line powered to the top and sliced out fractions of :27.2, :56.4 and 1:25. Odds On Amethyst was off the rail in the backstretch, and he powered up to challenge the leader in the middle stages of the contest before putting him away and using a :28.2 closing quarter to win by a neck over the 1-2 favourite, Major Athens, in 1:53.2. Emoticon Hanover was third.

Sent off as the 9-5 second choice in the wagering, the six-year-old son of Muscle Hill-Mystical Sunshine now boasts a stellar record of 8-1-1 from 14 starts this season for Hudon and partners Adam Kean, Charles Gazzola and William Cripps. The 23-time winner has banked $378,562 to date.
