Recent Flamboro Downs winners, pacer Senior Market and trotter Lexis D J, shared the spotlight on Sunday night (May 8) at the Dundas oval, both posting wins in the co-featured $11,000 Preferred 2 events.
Driven by Mike Whelan in the pacing horse and gelding division, the Rebecca Titus-trained Senior Market ($12.40) followed in the two-hole through panels of :28.1, :56.3 and 1:25.1 behind Adkins Hanover, who eventually gave way in the stretch to first over Saulsbrook Peach. Favourite Shippen Out rallied off cover while Senior Market took the inside route and made it a three-way finish. Senior Market ultimately prevailed in 1:54.3 by a quarter-length over Shippen Out while Saulsbrook Peach settled for third. The five-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding now boasts back-to-back wins this month at Flamboro for owners Steve Titus and Frank Gallo.
Lexis D J ($10) lasted on the lead in the trotting feature, rebuffing challenges from favourites Call Me Richard and then Big Rich, who finished two and three-quarter lengths behind in second and third, respectively. Lexis D J had carved out fractions of :29.2, :59.4 and 1:28.3 before stopping the clock in 1:57.2 with Bob McClure aboard for trainer/owner Shane Arsenault. He has now won three of his last four starts.
Earlier on the card, Lady Dynamite ($13.90) converted off a pocket trip in a $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters to defeat even-money favourite Winkys Pride in 1:57.3. Phil Hudon drove the six-year-old Muscle Yankees mare for owner/trainer Alan Fair.
