A 10-race card opened the 2023 season at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday night (May 6).
Takeyourbreathaway romped in the feature on the night, a $5,000 conditioned pace which wrapped the card.
The nine-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven mare wound up from sixth after Maddys Credit uncorked wicked first-half speed of :26.4 and :56.2 and flew. Circling three-high to three-quarters in 1:25.2, Takeyourbreathaway grabbed air and blew clear to a seven-length victory in 1:54.3.
Last year’s leading driver Garrett Rooney orchestrated the winning drive for trainer Daryl Laver and owner Randy Zhok.
The mare paid the highest price to win of the night at a $21.70 mutuel.
Harness racing at Sarnia continues every Saturday through Sept. 23. First-race post time is 6:30 p.m. (EDT).
