Commissioner Daley and Killer Thriller posted sharp wins in the main events Sunday evening at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and that was music to the ears of the favourite players.
Commissioner Daley, who was sent off as the 3-5 choice in the $6,500 feature for trotters, powered to an easy victory in his assignment for trainer/driver Guy Gagnon.
Hustled to the lead from Post 5, the six-year-old son of Conway Hall-Irish Washerwoman sped through splits of :28.1, :57.1 and 1:26.1 before coasting home in :30.4 to win handily over Cheque The Magic and Alacrity.
Ecuries Guy Gagnon Inc, Gestion Louis Latulippe Inc and Gestion Bruno Blouin share ownership on the gelding who is 3-for-7 so far this season. The 20-time winner upped his bankroll to just shy of $160,000 with the win.
Killer Thriller picked up his third win in his last four starts in the $6,650 feature for pacers for the tandem of driver Brett MacDonald and trainer Karen Kroeger.
Let go at odds of 4-5 in the six-horse affair, Killer Thriller got away fifth and held that position through the first half. Diggin In and Viper Select battled on the lead through panels of :27 and :55.1 before Pieraz joined in the skirmish and pressed Viper Select to the three-quarter pole in 1:24.2. Killer Thriller rode the cover of Pieraz before tipping out late and firing home in :28.3 to win by a half-length margin over Viper Select in 1:53.4. Taking home third prize was Bazinga Brad.
Kroeger shares ownership on the homebred with Gilles Plourde of Gatineau, QC. Together, they’ve watched the five-year-old son of Jeremes Jet-Thrillicious go 4-for-12 to start the 2017 campaign. The 20-time winner is quickly closing in on career earnings of $80,000.
