Speed Away took his first win since January with an upset score in the $30,405 Open Handicap Trot on Wednesday, May 6 at Harrington Raceway in 1:55.1.
The eight-year-old Father Patrick-All The Time gelding settled into second as the dust from an early battle settled, then circled to the lead after a :27.4 quarter. Corey Callahan rated him to middle splits of :57.1 and 1:26.1, and Speed Away never relented, extending his margin to 2-1/2 lengths over Fruit Snacker (Tony Morgan). A Blue Million (Montrell Teague) finished third.
The Nick Callahan-trained Speed Away tallied his 26th lifetime win in 109 starts. The former Horse of the Meet at Harrington now has 13 career wins at the track. He is two-for-10 on the year for Breakaway Racing and Yorwollahan Racing Team. The win price was $27.40.
On the undercard, Cantabs Master ($9.20, Corey Callahan) won his third straight race in 1:56.4 for trainer Peter Marsh, who co-owns the gelding with Amanda Malone. Callahan had four driving wins on the 15-race program.
Russell Foster, Jim Morand and Allan Davis each had driving doubles on the card.
