Prairie Panther, who was driven by Tyler Buter, captured Tioga Downs’ featured $12,000 Open Handicap Pace on Sunday (May 5).

Americanprimetime (who was driven by Greg Merton) went to the lead from his outside post and cut all of the fractions (:27.1, :56.3, 1:24).

Prairie Panther ($5.70), who is owned by Laurie Poulin and trainer Mike Deters, stalked from the garden spot the entire way. He tipped out at the top of the stretch and wore down the eventual second-place finisher, Americanprimetime, to win in 1:51.1. Owosso Flash (Fern Paquet Jr.) finished third.

Prairie Panther is a five-year-old gelding by Royal Millennium. He is now four for seven in 2019. His Sunday win was career victory No. 25.

Buter recorded a driving triple on the day. His other wins came with Seel The Deal N ($8.40) and Race Me Villa ($5.80).

Father and son Mike Simons and Shawn Simons each recorded one win during the card. Mike took All About Rusty ($13.40) to the winner's circle, while Shawn got his win with Wildcat Hilton ($3.40).

Tioga will next host live racing on Saturday (May 11). Post time for the card will be at 6:15 p.m.
