Rod Starkewski trainees swept the top two spots in the $40,000 Norm Kennedy Memorial as Crackle N Burn, second choice in the betting, whooped stablemate Outlaw Gunsablazin in 1:55.2 on Sunday, May 5 at Century Downs.
Crackle N Burn sat fifth as Night Stick led the field to a :28 opening quarter. Driver Phil Giesbrecht soon tipped Crackle N Burn first over and marched towards the leader approaching a :57.4 half.
Opening a three-length lead, Crackle N Burn paced away from the field passing a 1:25 third quarter. The Blue Burner colt turned for home six lengths clear of Outlaw Gunsablazin, who circled cover stalled around the turn, in second. Crackle N Burn hit the wire five-and-a-half lengths ahead of Outlaw Gunsablazin, while Go Nine O finished three lengths farther behind in third.
Owned by Starkewski, Crackle N Burn remains undefeated this season from four starts while collecting his sixth win from 13 races overall. The $7.40 winner has now earned $85,570.
