Canbec Condor Upsets In Rideau Feature

There was very little respect given to Canbec Condor in Thursday’s $13,000 Preferred Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and apparently the pacer took exception to the pari-mutuel snub

.

Sent off as the longest shot in the seven-horse field, Canbec Condor erupted for a 17-1 upset for the tandem of driver Guy Gagnon and conditioner Gerard Demers.

Gagnon tucked the nine-year-old son of Cherry Hills into an early three-hole while stablemate Best Show In Town zipped past the quarter pole in a :27-second clip. Gagnon had Canbec Condor on the move as the field motored in front of the grandstand, and it didn’t take him long to clear to the lead. Once in command of the tempo he threw down panels of :56.2 and 1:25 before sprinting home in a :29-second clip en route to the one-length tally over Best Show In Town in 1:54. Firethorn, who was also beaten by a one-length margin, was third.

The performance was a big improvement for Canbec Condor, who finished eighth one week earlier in Rideau Carleton Raceway’s Preferred class. The career winner of $366,270 is owned by Tourmana Inc, Lapharmaciedekedgwick Inc and Claude Hamel.
