Stormont O My was a wire-to-wire winner Wednesday night in Sudbury Downs’ $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Trot, equaling the 1:59.1 track record for older trotting mares that she set one week ago
.
With trainer Mario Rivest in the bike, Stormont O My left from Post 3 and led every step of the way en route to her third win in 12 seasonal starts. The field, which was reduced to five due to the scratch of Zorgwijk Fortunate, could not catch the six-year-old daughter of Stormont Bronze-Tanya Seelster as she sped past panels of :29.2, 1:00.1 and 1:29.4 before crossing the wire in 1:59.1 with a two-length advantage. Despite enduring broken equipment, fan favourite Kashas Kid (Gerry Belanger) finished second after traveling first over. Jackpot Emotion (Fred Maine) and Rewrite The Rules (Paul MacLean) could not be separated at the wire in a dead-heat for show.
Stormont O My returned $8.50 to win as the 3-1 third choice. The lion’s share of the purse bumped her seasonal earnings to $29,095 for owner John MacMillan of Spencerville, ON, while her lifetime bankroll climbed to $168,838.
Trainer Dion MacLean sent out three pupils on Wednesday evening's 11-race card and driver Wayne MacLean worked out winning trips for them all. After finishing second in his two previous starts, Foxys Fire Water (1:57.4) stepped up to the plate and hit a home run in the fifth race; Keystone Jubilee (1:59) took a new mark when she scored for the second consecutive time in the seventh race; and Shaws Creek Spirit (2:00.1) cashed in for the first time this season in the ninth race.
