As Standardbred Canada and The Raceway at the Western Fair District are set to host a horse ownership trade show with industry participants, one track is taking a different approach to providing a forum for trainers to interact with the public.
On Saturday, May 28, Scioto Downs will be hosting ‘Trainer Speed Dating’ to allow potential owners the opportunity to sit down with multiple trainers that race at the track and do a quick interview with each to see if they are a match.
The event will be held in the Scioto Clubhouse starting at 3:00 p.m.
Not only will owners be given the opportunity to talk to trainers, but they can visit with representatives from the USTA, Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association and the Ohio State Racing Commission to get their questions answered about licensing, membership and the paperwork that is involved with owning a racehorse.
After the speed dating sessions are over, the participants will be taken to the backside for a tour, meet some horses that are currently for sale, and finish with a visit to the race paddock as horses are getting ready for the evening's races.
The cost for registration is $5, which includes a racing program and betting voucher from Scioto Downs. Interested participants can sign up at the USTA Online Store. There will also be a registration form available in Scioto Downs’ live racing program, which can be turned in to the program stand starting on Opening Day, May 10. Registrations are due May 25.
If you are a trainer interested in new owners and want to be involved in Trainer Speed Dating, you may sign-up with Scioto’s Race Secretary, Jason Roth, at 614-295-4669.
