The often unlucky number 13 proved to be just the opposite for Mcapulco as the seven-year-old McArdle son was triumphant in his 13th start of the season Friday night in the $15,000 Preferred Pace at Western Fair Raceway

.

Teaming up with Robert Shepherd, the 7-2 third choice fired to command from post four during a speedy :26.4 opening quarter -- the fastest so far this season at the London oval. Mcapulco proceeded to the half :57 and three-quarters in 1:25.4 and turned back a first over challenge from favourite Jackets Required and Ross Battin into the stretch. He then held off the pocket-pulling Acceptable Risk late in the mile for the 1:54.1 score by a neck. Button Up and Mike Horner edged out Jackets Required three lengths back in third.

He paid $9.50 to win for the 22nd time in his career. The David Menary trainee, who has earned $39,265 of his $$335,611 bankroll this year, is owned by Pennsylvania's Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.

The win was one of four on the 12-race card for Shepherd. He teamed up Menary for one more score with three-year-old Camluck filly Phoenix Seelster, who broke her maiden in 1:59.3.
