The 52nd edition of the Lady Suffolk Stakes will be contested in divisions at Freehold Raceway on Friday, May 6. The six-horse divisions have been carded as Race 6 and 8 and each carry
a $39,825 purse.
In the first division, driver Jeff Gregory will start from the rail with John Stark, Jr. trainee Imageofasweetday, a finalist in the New York Sire Stakes at Yonkers Raceway last fall. Right alongside in Post 2 will be driver Cat Manzi and Refuse To Lose for trainer George Teague, Jr. The filly competed with Canada's best juvenile fillies last year in the Peaceful Way Stakes and the Champlain Stakes. Trainer Charlie Norris will drive Pacific Splash from Post 4.
Jeff Gregory will again start from the rail in the second division, this time with Dance Steps.
The Lady Suffolk, which began in 1960, will be contested in divisions for the 10th straight season. Twenty-nine of the 51 prior years it has been split into at least two divisions. This year's installment marks the 20th straight season that the race will be contested at Freehold. Such notables as Delmonica Hanover (1972), Grades Singing (1985) and Jefs Spice (1986) have won the Lady Suffolk in the past.
First-race post time for Friday’s 10-race program is 12:30 p.m.
