There was no shortage of early speed in Monday evening’s 10th race at Grand River Raceway, and the fiery pace helped Look Closer match the track record for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings
.
In rein to Scott Coulter, Look Closer slid into an early six hole while Stormont Lancelot rolled the field through wicked fractions of :27.3, :57.2 and 1:27.3 for driver Jonathan Drury. Coulter, who was seventh at the mid-way point with his charge, made a three-wide move at the three-quarter pole before using a :29.4 final frame to post the 1:58.3 score. It was three lengths back to runner-up Zorgwijk Heavenly. Fa Mulan was a distant third.
Sent off as the 7/5 choice, the Paula Wellwood-trained son of Muscles Yankee-My Own Hanover equaled the track record set back in 2006 by Chosen Voyageur.
The gelding is owned by Wellwood Stables Inc of Cambridge, ON. It was his second win of the season, and the third of his career. He has stashed away close to $46,000 in his career.
