Bee Two Bee Back On Top In Charlottetown Preferred

Bee Two Bee reclaimed the Preferred spotlight as he turned back the streaking Blood Money on Saturday, May 30 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park to complete a front-end score in the $7,000 Preferred 1 Pace.

Jason Hughes put Bee Two Bee ($2.70) right into play from post four and cleared him to the front through an opening quarter of :27.2 before rating him to fractions of :55.4 and 1:25. The nine-year-old son of Sunshine Beach-Bee Fullof Steinam had plenty left for home, closing in :27.3 to win by three lengths in 1:52.3 for trainer Ashley Gamester. Blood Money (Gilles Barrieau) sat second throughout and finished there as his winning streak ended at six. T H Boomtown (Marc Campbell) completed the triactor.

Bee Two Bee is three-for-four this year for owners Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. and Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown, P.E.I. He has earned $567,477 with 49 wins in 183 career starts.

Brigus ($24.90) scored an 11-1 upset in the $5,150 Preferred 2 Pace for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Nicholas Oakes. The five-year-old son of Betterthancheddar-Bachata Hanover cut the mile from post four and refused to give in, winning by a quarter-length in 1:55 for owner Milton Young of Paradise, N.L. Fast Louie (Barrieau) rallied for second while Malignity (Paul Langille) was third.

The evening opened with Starship Sharky ($5.60) delivering a dominant victory in the first race. Adam Merner engineered the winning trip for trainer Earl Watts as the three-year-old Somewhere Fancy-First Lady gelding powered away to win by 14 lengths in 1:56 for owner-breeder Claude Poirier of Havre-aux-Maisons, Que.

Merner won again in the fourth race with No Mo Fear ($4.70) in 1:57.4 for trainer Paul Doyle, then struck the triple in Race 13 as Merigo Magic ($5.50) closed out the program with a sharp last quarter of :26.4 to win in 1:57.2 from his driver's barn.

Watts doubled from his stable as Gigis Dream ($2.20) and Marc Campbell controlled the eighth race in 1:55.3.
